  3. <hi style=afpcap>The Fairchild 24W-41 light transport was ordered by the Army in 1941 with a contract for 163 which except for two were all destined for the RAF as part of the huge Lend-Lease agreement. These were designated the UC-61, and were followed by the UC-61A model with a revised radio fit. The majority of these were also destined for supply to the RAF, with 148 of the 512 built being retained by the Army. Several civilian examples were impressed into service with designations UC-61B through UC-61J being allocated, while the UC-61K was ordered with a different engine fitted. </hi>
